- Graded slabs – Fake cases with swapped cards
How to Protect Yourself
Avoid counterfeits by:
- Buying graded – Third-party authentication
- Verifying cert numbers – Check online databases
- Knowing your cards – Learn printing characteristics
- Buying from reputable sources – Established dealers and platforms
Red Flags
Warning signs of potential fakes:
- Prices significantly below market
- Seller resistance to verification
- Poor quality photos
- New accounts with premium inventory
The Authentication Solution
For high-value cards:
- Buy already graded from PSA, BGS, SGC
- Submit questionable raw cards for authentication
- Use verification tools before purchasing
The cost of authentication is cheap insurance against buying fakes. When in doubt, don’t buy unverified cards.
